1 thumb Mapsme Pro with Offline Navigation is Now Free for iOS and AndroidOffline navigation is one of the main features a traveler needs. While you are home and covered by your phone carrier's data plan, using a phone navigation app like Google Maps will do just fine.

When you travel though, roaming charges start applying and you start looking for an offline navigation app. Although you could create offline maps inside Google maps, you won't be able to use the built-in navigation feature while being offline.

Most apps that offer offline navigation usually come with a price, and that price is usually not small. Except Today when you can get the Maps.me app for free!

What's the catch?

Maps.me is an offline navigation app for iOS, Android, Blackberry and more. It comes with offline navigation and search. It used to have a Free edition and a $4.99 Pro upgrade, the Free edition being limited to offline viewing, while the Pro edition added offline search and navigation.

Maps.me was acquired by Mail.ru last month for an undisclosed sum, and now Maps.me goes totally free.

The main perks you get by adding Maps.me to your iOS or Android device are:

  1. Offline navigation/routing
  2. Offline search
  3. Location bookmarks
  4. Uses OpenStreetMap data which means you have worldwide country coverage
  5. Uses your phone storage wisely: you can choose which country map to download

In conclusion, this is an awesome deal which should not be missed. We can only ponder what will the app's next upgrades be, under the new Mail.ru management.

Their statement "Mail.Ru announced plans to open-source MAPS.ME data in 2015, to contribute to the thriving OpenStreetMap community" is vague to say the least.
