Top Free Tetris Games for iOS and Android
I was feeling nostalgic lately, of the old classic games that kept us company in our childhood and I wanted desperately to find the most classical of all, which is none other than Tetris. I tried plenty of game apps and came up with a list of free Tetris games for iOS and Android with the best gameplay elements, and share it here with you.
The list includes 6 different Tetris games that you can get for free, but not all of them are available both for iOS and Android.
1. Classic Cubes (iOS) by zhonghui chen
It’s amazing that Classic Cubes only came out this month and I wouldn't even notice it if I hadn't scrolled down a lot in App Store’s "Tetris" search results. This game gives the user the exact same feeling of the old Tetris game because it uses the exact same graphics and exact music; even the controls have the same look as the old console itself. I love how traditional it looks because no matter how cool new graphics in games are, and no matter the amazing the new elements and great gameplay, nothing can beat that old retro design that is connected to so many pleasant memories from our childhood. The controls work great, it doesn’t have IAP and basically the only difference from the old game is that you use a touch screen to tap instead of real buttons. Give it a try!
2. Old-Fashioned Bricks (iOS) by Fox
Just like Classic Cubes, Bricks also gives the nostalgic old-fashioned style, plus 1-3 box various combinations. The graphics and music are the same as the original Tetris game as well. I’m extremely excited I managed to find not just one, but two classic Tetris-style games because I didn’t have much hope at first, judging from the results I got when I started looking for them (in fact, the only thing that kept me hoping was the App Store’s bad search engine), so I was positively surprised to see developers remain so faithful to the original game. It has smooth controls, and by using the Options button you can choose a different skin (except for the original one) or make other small changes if you wish. A must-have game app for Tetris fans.
3. Pentix Free (iOS) by LokiTap LLC
Pentix doesn’t stick only to the old Tetris look and gameplay, but adds more to it in order to make it more exciting. Instead of the classic 4-brick figures, Pentix offers 5-bricks, which might seem bizarre to you at first, but you'll get used to it eventually- it's not much more difficult, and it does offer more entertainment. Other than that, it has the same rules and gameplay as the classic game, so you won’t have trouble getting familiar with it. Unlike the previously listed games there are no buttons to tap on, but instead, you tap on the bricks themselves to change their appearance. This version has colorful bricks and a black background. There is also a paid version in case you were wondering, which has a few more features too.
4. Tetris® Blitz for iOS and Android by Electronic Arts
EA takes Tetris to a whole new level with this game and I promise you, you will be fascinated by the gorgeous graphics and fast-paced gameplay. In Blitz (which is available both for iOS and Android) you must score as high as possible in just two minutes, by clearing lines and racking up as many points as you possibly can. You can also play against other players in limited-time Tournaments. Blitz also offers unique control options, such as the Drag-and-Place feature that lets you tap and drag pieces with precision, the extremely fast One-Touch control system, or the Swipe system in which you use the original controls. It’s a game that adds to the classical form of Tetris and it’s quite fun to play once you get used to it, mainly due to the fact that it’s hard to get used to its fast pace.
5. TETRIS® for iOS and Android by Electronic Arts
This is similar to Tetris Blitz, but it keeps more elements of the traditional version of Tetris. The amazing graphics are still present and various modes are available; there’s One-Touch, which is the normal mode and the Marathon mode, in which you can choose between really fast One-Touch, the Drag-and-Place option (the same as in the Blitz game) and the original Swipe controls. Finally, there is the Galaxy mode too, which is a “multi-level” mode that is extremely fast and offers power-ups too. Be aware that both EA games support IAP. I personally don’t like the new remix of the classical Tetris theme but that’s just a personal preference. Nevertheless, it’s a lovely game to have in your device.
6. Brick Game Match (Android) by Vstars
Last but not least we have Brick Game Match, a game app for Android that encompasses the nostalgic style of Tetris. It comes with beautiful graphics and lovely background music, and it also has an online leaderboard to check your score against the scores of other players or share your results with friends.
We’ve reached the end of the list and I hope it was useful and helpful to all of you. Stay tuned for more reviews!
