Top 8 Best Free New Games in the App Store
The games that make an appearance in the App Store’s Best New Games category are plenty and interesting this time, each one for different reasons. Some will appeal to you more and others will not attract your interest as much. Nonetheless, it is important to list them so that you can decide for yourselves.
Here are the eight best free new games currently in the App Store (some of which are available for Android as well):
1. Spirefall by Gameblyr, LLC
Spirefall is a pleasant surprise on the endless arcade games. It’s charming and captivating. The player uses the controls that appear on both left and right of the screen to move right/left and to jump, in order to control the movements of the main character which is a cat. The cat must jump between platforms with fast reflexes because the platforms collapse if you remain stationed. Other platforms however, act like bouncing pillows that send you right up. Be careful for other obstacles such as spikes, fire walls, and others. If the cat gets hit by an obstacle it loses one life and when all three lives are gone, then you’ll go back to the start.
2. Bloks by Bulkypix
From the endless arcade we’re moving to a puzzle game, amazing in each own way, Bloks. Bloks is a puzzle Match-4 game that will impress you with its mechanics and fast pace. The rules are simple: swap Bloks to make rows and columns of 4 blocks of the same color. You touch the blok and then swipe right to make as many bloks as possible disappear. If you make combos you are rewarded with score boosts and compete against others online. It’s colorful with minimalistic design and extremely simple to master.
3. Feed’em Burger by Pine Entertainment
I wish this game could produce real-life burgers… seriously, even though it has retro graphics, the burgers look so good that it’s a torture. The player is basically the chef taking burger orders and they have to prepare them as fast as possible without making mistakes in the ingredients and the order of putting everything in. There’s even a “Fever Mode” that is activated if you’re making burgers fast and it will drive you crazy! It is a great game to play, without worrying about scores or moving forward or even caring about losing. It’s a game simple for funs!
4. Linebound - Life On The Line by Crazy Labs
How long can you walk on a straight line without straying? It’s not that easy once you start doing it, right? This fast-paced arcade game also tests your ability to move fast, avoiding obstacles and getting back in line. The controls are basically two: tap and hold on the left to move the ball on the left and repeat for the right side. To return to the line release the hold. The obstacles are everywhere and can drive you crazy because you’ll have to move faster than light to avoid some of them. As levels change so does the difficulty and since Linebound is an endless arcade losing means starting over. The lives are enough for a good doze of Linebound each day so you don’t have to use IAP. I’m addicted to this game and the frustration of losing can’t match my obsession. But you’ve been warned! Not for easily frustrated people!
5. Zoidtrip by Arthur Guibert
Oh my… oh my… as if endless arcades weren’t adding enough, now with Zoidtrip it becomes even harder to let go. In this game you’re controlling a creature which in my eyes looks like a kite but no one knows for sure what it is. In any case, the kite is falling down and you have to prevent it from hitting in the obstacles that appear during the fall. All you have to do is tap on the screen to make it change direction but c’mon, you know it’s never THAT easy when we’re talking about endless arcades. Zoidtrip is a lovely game and I like that every time I play it has different background color. Also, the expressions on the kite’s face are adorable and I’ve got to admit, it was this childish face that triggered my interest in the first place. I’m sure you have room for one more endless arcade so give it a try!
Zoidtrip is also available for Android devices and can be found here.
6. Dragon Mania Legends by Gameloft
To take a break from puzzles and endless arcades, here we have a battle game with dragons that you raise yourself from the moment they hatch! When they grow up you will need their help to reclaim your city from the Vikings and go into fierce battles against them. There are over 100 different species of dragons for you to collect, raise, train, and throw to battle. With amazing graphics that Gameloft always delivers and an interesting plot, fans of battle games will find a new addition to add to their collection.
7. Stormfall: Rise of Balur by Plarium Global Ltd
The popular Stormfall™ franchise came to iOS as a standalone MMO strategy game that will amaze you with the stunning graphics and the great plot that has made Stormfall so successful. The plot is this: “The Empire of Stormfall has fallen, and rival warlords join battle across the continent as an ancient evil rises once again. You have been chosen. It falls to you to lead your people and your army; to drag them through these dark times and into the light. Only you can stand against the gathering forces of darkness and reunite the lands of Darkshine once again.” The player must construct and defend their kingdom in a medieval setting with lots of fantasy elements. Whether you’re a fan of the franchise, or you just heard of the game you should give it a chance because this is an MMO that takes mobile gaming to a whole new level. The IAP makes its presence very obvious but it is necessary only for certain elements of the game. If you like MMO games, Stormfall will captivate you.
Stormfall: Rise of Balur is also available for Android devices and you can find it here.
8. Castle Rider: Mr. Softer’s Adventure by TEAM SIGNAL, LLC
How good are you at balancing things? Do you have what it takes to keep our hero, Mr. Softer on top of the flying platform? Castle Rider is all about balance and good reflexes. During your “flight” you will experience a rain of attacks that range from barrels to arrows and other dangerous weapons. The goal is to go as far as possible upwards until your hero finds his princess and saves her from her kidnapper. On your way up you collect stars to unlock power ups and other items, and although it’s an endless game it contains missions and badges to make the game more interesting! Also the hero is adorable and his expressions will steal your heart. Give it go guys!
