The 7 Most Useful Browser Extensions for Facebook on Desktops
For many of you, logging into Facebook is a daily hobby. But there are some things in it that probably disturb you, and it is quite unlikely that they will get changed anytime soon.
In this guide we will present you the most useful extensions for Facebook, which will allow you to customize it more than you’re supposed to.
Note that most of the following extensions for Facebook are available exclusively for Chrome. Only Who deleted me on Facebook? And Social Fixer are available for Firefox.
What are browser extensions?
Extensions are small programs that extend the browser’s functionality, thus adjusting it to the user’s individual needs.
Extensions can add style and uniqueness to the browser, but it is advisable not to overdo it if you do not want to slow down the browser.
7 most useful browser extensions for Facebook
There are dozens of extensions for Facebook- even specialized scripts that give you a range of new features for the social network. However, not all of them are useful or working all right.
For this guide, we picked out seven extensions that provide useful features for most users.
Note, however, that Facebook keeps changing its code very regularly, so there is the possibility that some extensions for Facebook which work fine today, might not work in a week, a month, or a year.
Flatbook
With Flatbook, surfing on Facebook gets a new interesting interface, blocks ads and loads faster.
To install it, click here first. Then click on “Add to Chrome” and confirm the installation.
As you can see, the only permission requests are related to Facebook.
Afterwards you will be notified that the extension has been installed.
Now, if you visit Facebook, you will see the new interface immediately. This specific extension provides the flexibility of choosing whether you want enable the Flatbook interface, or disable it and use the original Facebook look, from the respective button located on the top left corner.
If you want to remove the extension, you can simply do by right-clicking on its icon at the top-right corner of the browser and choosing “Remove from Chrome”.
It should be noted however that, like all other extensions for Facebook, this only makes changes locally, on your computer. Anyone who visits your profile will not see any changed interface.
Facebook Unseen
How many times have you received a Facebook message, but did not want to answer? However, Facebook forces you (in a way) to do it because the sender knows that you have read the message, and waits for a reply.
In this article, we talked about what you can do to block the "Seen" message from showing up to those who message you, but now we're going to present you an alternative method for doing so: by using the Facebook Unseen extension.
By using the Facebook Unseen extension you can see your messages, and the sender will not be informed of it.
So, to install it, click here first and then click “Add to Chrome”.
To configure the extension and block the “Read” and “Typing” indications, right-click on the extension icon and select “Options”.
From the screen that appears, you can see what kind of configurations you can make for the extension.
Who deleted me on Facebook?
The only acceptable answer to the question “Who deleted me from Facebook?” is “Who cares?”. However, for reasons we cannot (and don’t want to) understand, some people do care.
The “Who deleted me on Facebook” extension lets you know who has unfriended you from Facebook, who blocked you, and what new friends you have made.
If you are using Firefox, click here to add this extension.
As for Chrome users, click here to visit the extension’s page in Chrome Web Store and follow the usual process.
Once the installation has been successfully finished, a blue little human will appear on Chrome’s toolbar.
From now, on this little human will do all the work for you and reveal all the changes related to your Facebook friends.
For the record, this extension started out as an application within Facebook, but Facebook asked for its termination in April 2015. However, the creators of the application returned and made this specific extension.
Emoticons – Mogicons
The web has been filled with smileys and figures dancing, laughing, crying, which is a quick way to express our feelings. Let alone that they have saved us at times when we were in the difficult position of not knowing what to reply.
A guide presenting extensions for Facebook would not be complete if it did not include an extension for emoticons.
So, click here to add the extension for Chrome.
When installation is complete, click on its icon on the toolbar and select “Mogicons” to open the extension’s page.
It has a wide variety of images and covers the entire range of your expressions. With a simple copy-paste procedure you can use the emoticon while chatting that best expresses you.
Pretty Facebook Chat
So far we have added many emoticons in Facebook chat and block the “read” indication with the Facebook unseen extension. But is something missing? Perhaps your eyesight is not as good, and you would like to have a bigger Facebook chat window? Or maybe you want to have more visual elements?
One of the best extensions for Facebook is Pretty Facebook chat.
After you’ve installed it, click on its icon from the toolbar to see the following window (note that you will be asked to share the extension at least once to view the settings):
From it you can adjust font size, color and style.
Also, with this extension the chat window initially opens in the middle of the screen, and not in the bottom right, as usual. But you also have the ability to move it to other positions as well.
Mini Facebook
If you watch videos on Facebook daily, you will surely be bothered by the fact that you must interrupt your scrolling to watch the entire video of interest.
But worry not, since this problem is solved by using the Mini Facebook extension. Thanks to it, you can watch a video you want and continue scrolling on Facebook, at the same time.
Download the extension by clicking here.
Now, when you visit Facebook again, you will notice a “Mini Facebook” indication displayed on videos.
Clicking on it will start video playback at the right side of the screen (you can change its position though), allowing you to continue scrolling and watch the video simultaneously.
Social Fixer
Most Facebook extensions that we presented only have one or two features.
But if you want a complete suite, which will allow you to configure your Facebook page in any way you want to, Social Fixer is what you need. With it you can hide posts that you’ve already seen, filter posts based on particular subjects, hide parts of the page that you don’t want to see, change theme, and do a lot more.
It’s available for Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari, plus it’s available Greasemonkey script too. You can download it from here.
There are several other extensions for Facebook that you can easily find, but installing them all is not a good idea- apart from slowing down your browser, you're also increasing your chances of falling a victim to a malicious script.
