Samsung is getting into virtual reality via Oculus technology. The only requirement is to own the new Galaxy Note 4 which straps on the front of the device.

The Samsung Gear VR is a headset to enjoy a spot of virtual reality. The Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7-inch Quad HD display which is perfect for HD viewing. The Oculus brand logo is shown on the side of the rig that goes over your head and straps on.

The Gear VR is designed to be more mobile for people who travel or want to take the VR on the road with them. This explains why Oculus thought if made sense to partner up with Samsung for this product. For those who don't wish to buy the Oculus Rift product, this could be an alternative using half of the tech you may already own, such as the Note 4 (when it goes on sale that is).

Both Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus from Sony do seem to track head movement a little better, so there are clearly trade-offs when you want to create a hybrid virtual reality kit.

A square touchpad is present on the right side of the head rig, with back navigation buttons and volume control. This ensures that you don't need to carry around a separate controller to use during a VR game. The gyro and accelerometer sensors build-in sure come in handy. The VR goggle provide 96 degrees of virtual viewing.

The Ocular Rift project included anti-blur technology so quick movement didn't create nausea for the gamer. It remains to be seen if that has been incorporated into this mobile hybrid version here.

Game developers will need to create special versions of their games to take advantage of this VR platform.
