Puzzle Monster Quest launches with Attack on Titan limited time collaboration!
Fans of the manga/anime Attack on Titan (as am I) will be happy to know that the puzzler “Puzzle Monster Quest” is collaborating with the famous franchise and brings you beloved characters such as Eren Jaeger, as well as unique monsters and A.O.T. themed dungeons. I fangirl really hard when games announce these types of collaborations and considering the huge following A.O.T. has, I believe these news will please all fans. With the PS4 game also released and the new anime season on the way, A.O.T. fans have a lot to look forward to and enjoy in the meantime.
Plot
But what is Puzzle Monster Quest? Well, the story takes place in a village that has come under attack by a monster invasion. It is up to you now, and your sidekick Izzy (your trusted furball) that brings you up to speed, to begin a dangerous journey to save the village and bring the monster menace to an end.
Gameplay
In PMQ you match tiles of the same color to navigate your hero through unfriendly dungeons that serve as the perfect hideout for monsters. Needless to say, they can’t wait to catch you. Every time you match a tile near an enemy monster, an attack will be released, and the more tiles you match, the greater the attack will be. Matching tiles also opens paths for your hero to advance.
If you match 15 or more tiles, you’ll be able to use the Bravery Chain, which is a powerful attack that knocks back your enemies while dealing massive amounts of damage. You will also notice that tiles have different colors; each color represents a unique element type that can increase or weaken the power of your attacks, depending on the element type of the monsters. In addition, you can visit a blacksmith and forge weapons and armor, as well as craft rare materials to create mythical equipment.
In your quest inside all kinds of dungeons, you’ll come across over 1,000 different monsters that you can battle or capture and befriend. Those monsters that come to your side can be trained and evolved in order for you to have a strong and invincible party. Each monster has unique abilities that can be activated when the time is right. As far as A.O.T. content goes, there are 17 unique monsters and heroes e.g. Captain Levi, Eren Jaeger, and Mikasa Ackerman.
The game also supports multiplayer so you can create teams with other players and fight together against the monsters.
In-app Purchases
PMQ is free for download but includes IAPs available at the Shop with bundles and other options. Of course everything is optional and you can enjoy the game without spending money.
Graphics & Sounds
PMQ has 2D graphics with anime-ish adorable characters (even in the form of monsters) smooth, crystal-clear colors and it is altogether beautiful to look at. The music is also fun and joyful.
Conclusion
For A.O.T. fans, Puzzle Monster Quest is a must because the collaboration is only for a limited time although it is not specified until when. As a match-3 puzzler it is very enjoyable and holds many surprises for the player. Please keep in mind that the game is only available in the U.S. but hopefully it will soon be released globally.
