Microsoft launches Cloud Platform roadmap website and gets serious about cloud domination
Microsoft have launched a consolidated Microsoft Cloud Platform roadmap web site which brings together all the different technologies and products that they have either brought to the cloud already or are actively working on doing so.
The Microsoft Cloud Platform has its Azure cloud service at its center with its machine learning capabilities which Microsoft have been keen to expand by acquiring other companies focused on how to process big data and how to analyse it more effectively.
The Cloud is Key Area of Focus for Microsoft Now
Microsoft was a little slow to come to the cloud but once it made the move, it did so with gusto. The company shift gears to develop a significant presence in the cloud computing market that rivals the likes of Amazon's AWS and other competitors at the present time.
Information Shared About Cloud Products
The Cloud Platform roadmap web site is intended to provide information on all the current cloud services that Microsoft provide to consumer and business customers alike. This includes both released products and those in various stages of testing with public test builds as they are currently doing with the public Windows 10 Technical Preview builds being released to Windows Insiders.
Wide Ranging Cloud Products List
The Microsoft cloud includes Azure, Intune, Visual Studio Online, Office 365, and Power BI. The powerful relational database software SQL Service, code creation software Visual Studio, System Center and Windows Server also feature in the cloud now.
It is also possible to track other platforms like StorSimple, Analytics Platform System and Cloud Platform System too.
Windows Server Not Released Until 2016
The Windows Server operating system is due for a new release. This won't happen until at least 2016 so it is not tracking the Windows 10 release at all. Customers who wish to track the progress in the Windows Server development can do so on the Cloud Platform roadmap site. The latest preview builds for Windows Server will also be made available on the Cloud Platform site as well.
Trust Improving With Microsoft
It is good to see Microsoft continue to support the cloud following the early success of Office 365. The public sharing of cloud software development and offering participation in preview builds of various key Microsoft products is also seen as a positive development for the company where more transparency was needed in order to develop trust.
