Google's Nest Continues To Sign Up Interesting Home Partners
Nest, the digital automated home company, has been busy of late signing up 15 new partners to help them connect the home via many kinds of devices. Nest have previously offered thermostats and smoke detectors with web enabling but are now expanding its "Works with Nest" program to go well beyond this limited availability.
Philips Hue lightbulbs are now able to change to different colors when smoke is detected (which will help the deaf be alerted when there is a fire alarm). The system will phone the emergency services for you when smoke is detected too. Should that luxury Whirlpool or LG bathtub be left with the water running or powered up for too long then the home owner can be notified before the bathroom floods or too much power is wasted. Access the window pull shades and automatically raise or pull them down at set times or under homeowner control.
Have The Washer / Dryer Notify You When Cycle Is Complete
Put the washing in for a clean and spin it until dry. Then have the Whirlpool washer and dryer notify you when the run is all done. No more having to time it just right or to go keep checking if the laundry is done for another week.
Locks, Lights, Motion Sensors, Free HD Calls and Sleep Aid
Various locking systems now have new support added to integrate with the Nest network like the August Smart Lock and Kevo Smart Lock. The Insteon which creates a digital system that can control light switches, thermostats, and motion sensors will now run with Nest. The free phone system provided by Ooma Telo is now supported to enable free US high-definition phone calls within the Google Nest system. Even the Withings Aura Sleep System which creates calming sound and light effects to aid a restful nights sleep is supported now.
Lighting and Power
Lighting and power are key basic elements to the smart home system. Accordingly, beyond the support for Philips Hue lightbulbs, Stack bulks and Lightify lights can be controlled via Nest. Zuli Smartplugs with app control of power plugs and even the Chargepoint Home EV for charging electric cars can be used with Google's home automation company.
Many of the benefits of these partnerships will be presented at CES by Nest and the partners present at the trade show.
