Game review:Â Take over the city in Zombie Island!
While everyone is freaking out about Pokemon GO, I’m here getting excited about zombie games. My latest obsession is called Zombie Island and is the new game released by ZPLAY. What’s different about Zombie Island compared to other zombie games is that Zombie Island is very light-hearted and funny, as well as uniquely designed which is not common for this type of games.
Gameplay
Your main objective as a zombie is to take over the city (assuming zombies have a functional brain) by increasing your numbers and avoiding enemy fire. The city is full of frightened citizens who run around in shock trying to avoid the zombie horde, and police/army that try to destroy them with guns. Buildings and vehicles will block your way but the more of you there are, the better you can take care of them. Coins are also scattered around the city and by collecting them you can then unlock new characters to make the game more enjoyable (the zombie Geisha is my favorite one). In addition you have the chance to earn coins by watching an ad.
The controls are only the Left and Right buttons that appear on the two sides of your screen and serve to guide your zombies. You can leave the rest up to them and focus on guiding them to the right directions. The more zombies are added to the horde, the harder it is to control where you are going as a result of your main zombie being lost among the rest.
You get a new zombie with every citizen you devour and you can see the number of your prey at the top left of your screen. When you are attacked by the police or army you must try to avoid the bullets as much as possible and attack them instead. Yet again, the bigger the horde the harder it is to avoid loses. Apart from people, you can also destroy vehicles (tanks, cars) but your main concern should always be to keep as many zombies as possible alive. When the last one is dead then it is game over. Power us couldn't be missing from such a game so by finding the large blocks hidden in various places you can for example turn your zombie horde into a huge zombie able to destroy everything around it and more.
In-app Purchases
There are no IAPs in Zombie Island; everything is free of charge and you can only purchases new characters with coins you collect yourself in-game.
Graphics & Sounds
The pixelated and simplified graphics create a lovely atmosphere that helps the player feel calm and not be disturbed by their surroundings. The designs are also cute and funny and make even the fact of turning citizens into zombies seem hilarious. I only wish the characters looked less as cubes and more as pixalated ones because you can mostly seem their heads and not their full bodies. The BG music is joyful and the sound effects, especially the screams, very well done.
Conclusion
Zombie Island is a simple, funny and calm game that only aims to give the player a good time without frustrating moments or complicated rules. You simply try to create as many zombies as possible and take over a large portion of the city. If you want to try something that is easy to grasp and fun to play then give Zombie Island a try and you won’t regret it. let us know your thoughts and impressions in the comments below.
