A big percentage of Resident Evil fans consider Resident Evil 2 to be the best game in the series, and it’s not a coincidence that YouTuber Rob Lima chose it to create his own small version of the game with high quality graphics.

Rob Lima uploaded his first gameplay video in early February this year, attracting RE2 fans like zombies. Rob got models and animations from Wii shooter Resident Evil: The DarkSide Chronicles, and he programmed the gameplay using the Unreal Development Kit (UDK for short). This drew a lot of attention from RE's fanbase, as that video currently has over 55 thousand views in YouTube.

A few days ago, he decided to release another gameplay video, making fans drool even more for a complete remake of RE2. Unfortunately for them though, Rob does not intend on remaking the whole game, saying “I'm not planning on do something big, but is fun to walk around on Raccoon City on RE4 style”. The only reason he got into the trouble of remaking scenarios of the game was to test whether or not his codes were working indeed.

Rob did not take only models and animations from DarkSide Chronicles, but also removed the original game’s camera angles and created a weapon inventory HUD (head-up display) along with some inventory weapons. In addition, in his works he included cutscenes and sound effects from the original RE2.

In an older announcement, Capcom had stated that there was a possibility of a Resident Evil 2 remake if fans made a lot of noise for it. We don’t know if that promise is still valid, but no one can hide the fact that 16 years after the game’s original release for the Playstation console people still love it. Well, the original Resident Evil game got its own remake, so why cannot Resident Evil 2 get one either?

Below are the two gameplay videos Lima released. The first vid shows Claire running around in the creepy streets of Raccoon City, while the second one shows her exploring Raccoon City Police Department. Zombie shooting is included in both vids, of course.
