Facebook Messenger nevers ceases to amaze us, with every new feature that gets released once in a while, along with the app's updates. The features extend the app's functionality in order to make it more than a mere text-messaging app, as you will see below, and let its users have more pleasant conversations.

So, here are 5 unique Facebook Messenger tricks, which you might not be aware of:

1. Play basketball with your friends

How about a short game of hoops against your friends? If you have free time and want to have fun with your friends, you can invite them to a basketball game in Facebok Messenger.

All you have to do is send the basketball emoticon in your chat session. Then, tap on the emoticon and the game begins! Of course, the winner is the one with the highest score in the end.

2. Share your Spotify music

As you might (or might not) know, Facebook Messenger gives you the ability to share songs from Spotify to your Facebook wall. What you might not know however, is that now you can share songs that you're currently listening to in your chats.

First, you must make sure that the contact you want to share songs with also has Spotify installed in his phone. Then, open a chat with your friend and click on the icon that depicts 3 dots. Afterwards, select the the Spotify feature, and the song that you're listening to will be sent to your friend.

3. Make calls via Messenger

Most people use Messenger for sending text messages, but the app also has the ability to make voice calls to your Facebook friends. What you have to do, is simply open a new chat window with the friend that you want to call, and tap on the phone icon located next to his name.

In order for the call to be established, you must be conntected to the internet either via Wi-Fi or with 3G/4G mobile data.

4. Play Chess

Whenever you're feeling like a game of chess, then open Messenger and hit your chess buddy!

To get started, just type @fbchess play and a chess board will appear in the chat window. Then, you can move the pieces by typing @fbchess and the move that you want to make, using the following syntax:

@fbchess [piece you want to move][new position]

K is for king, Q for queen, B for bishop, N for knight, R for rook, and P for pawn. So, for instance, if you want to move the pawn located in the h column to position h6, then you would type @fbchess [Phh6].

There are other commands related to @fbchess, such as @fbchess resign for ending a match and @fbchess stats for displaying chess stats between you and your friend.

For further information and instructions, type @fbchess help.

It's relatively easy to change the colors of each conversation thread in Messenger.

Just tap on the information icon ("i") located in the upper corner of a chat window, and then select Color in the next screen. A color palette will be displayed, from which you can pick any color that you wish and use it as the conversation's color.
