jv16 PowerTools attempts to go Open Source via Crowdfunding

Here's an interesting campaign by Macecraft Software. Following surveys on their site in May and June 2013 where they asked users about going open source with their lead software jv16 PowerTools (currently $30 USD), they are now trying to do just that with Crowdfunding on Indiegogo.

Read about the campaign and take part if you want at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jv16-powertools-as-open-source. The campaign ends on March 23, 2014 (11:59pm PT) and they are still $60,000 short on their $100,000 goal.

Everything is explained in detail on the campaign page but the bottom line is that if they reach $100,000 in the next 35 hours, jv16 PowerTools becomes open source, free.

You might wonder what happens if the campaign goal is not reached:

"If the desired funding is not reached, all pledge levels will receive their digital rewards (no physical items) as well as a number of jv16 PowerTools 2014 licenses that matches its contribution level. On top of this, everyone (except Open Source FAN pledge level) will receive paid technical support time matching their respective contribution level."
