Sony confirms PlayStation 4 is the best game console of 2014

According to Sony, PlayStation 4 was the game console with the most sales universally for 2014, as well as the game console with the fastest sales compared to any other console to date.

In no more than 14 months after its release, the PS4 has reached more than 18.5 million sales worldwide, while during the Christmas holidays its sold more than 4.1 million PS4 consoles in 123 countries.

Below is what a Sony spokesperon told Games Beat:

PlayStation 4 was the top-selling console in the U.S. and globally in 2014,” a Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson told GamesBeat. “And [it is] the fastest selling console in PlayStation history with 18.5 million sold through after just 14 months in the market. We are humbled by this success and want to thank gamers worldwide for helping us achieve holiday sales of more than 4.1 million across 123 countries and regions. We are looking forward to another momentous year in 2015 and bringing an epic line up of titles to PlayStation fans around the world.

However, in the past two months (November – December) PS4's main rival Xbox One took the first spot in sales merely because of the $50 reduce in price during the holidays.

The battle will certainly continue throughout this year as well, because Microsoft has once again decreased the price for Xbox One to $349, compared to $399 for the PS4.

All we have to do is wait and see how this battle unfolds, as it can only mean one thing for us: more benefits and money saving.
