Nintendo President Is Optimistic About NX Sales
After confirming that the Nintendo NX will be released in March 2017, the president of Nintendo Tatsumi Kimishima responded to questions regarding the release schedule of the new system, through an informative investor briefing Q&A. When asked if the new system will sell at a loss, like the Wii U did, Kimishima replied that "we are not thinking of launching the hardware at a loss. When Wii U was launched, the yen was very strong. I am assuming that situation will not repeat itself. Selling at a loss at launch would not support the business, so we are keeping that mind in developing NX".
Both the PS3 and the PS4 were sold at a loss at Sony, and even though we know that the Xbox 360 also sold at loss, it’s not known but possible that the Xbox One did as well. So one question is whether the NX will be able to reverse this “trend”. It is also noted that if the rumors about the newer versions of the PS4 and Xbox One are confirmed, there will certainly be a price drop in original models, and Nintendo will be called to achieve a "balance" regarding the price of the Nintendo NX.
As for the software that will accompany the new system, Kimishima stated:
You are correct about needing a solid lineup of software. One of the reasons for choosing the launch timing that we did is so that the software lineup will be ready in time for the hardware launch. Not only at launch, but we also need to be able to continuously release titles after launch. We are planning for this to be a platform that consumers can enjoy for a long time.
The Nintendo NX will definitely try and make up for Wii U’s past mistakes, but it’s highly debatable. What do you think? Let us know by posting in the comments section below!
