Nintendo, surprising everyone, announced a special edition of the NES called Nintendo Classic Mini: NES, which will be released worldwide on November 11 and will come with 30 preinstalled classic games, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Mega Man 2 and Castlevania!

The device will be a mini replica of the classic console, will be connected to an HD TV directly, and the package will also include an HDMI cable, a USB cable for power supply (without the adapter, however) and a Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller.

The games that will be included in the package are the following:

  • Balloon Fight
  • BUBBLE BOBBLE
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE

  • FINAL FANTASY
  • Galaga
  • GHOSTS‘N GOBLINS
  • GRADIUS
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Mario Bros.
  • MEGA MAN 2
  • Metroid
  • NINJA GAIDEN
  • PAC-MAN
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream

  • SUPER C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2

Players will be able to connect a second controller to the mini console (sold separately), otherwise they will also have the ability to use a Wii Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro. Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller can even be used in Virtual Console NES games for the Wii U and Wii, with a simple connection to a Wii Remote Controller.

Kotaku contacted Nintendo with some questions, so here a few other things to note:

  • No additional games will be available for purchase other than the ones included in the package (i.e. the ones listed above).
  • Nintendo Classic Mini: NES will not be able to connect to the internet.
  • The console doesn't use physical media for playing games (i.e. cartridges), so you can't use your old games.
  • There are no comments regarding similar releases of other old consoles (mini-SNES or mini-N64).

The price of the Nintendo Classic Mini: NES is set at $59.99 for the US market, £50 for the UK market, and it’s expected to cost €59.99 in countries in the European Union.
