The Google Drive interface has been updated for their web app to allow a greater understanding of the Drive storage quota, what Google service data is taking up the most space (Gmail, Drive, Google+ Photos) and how much each file is using up in storage.

Depending on how much of the 15GB of standard Google Drive storage is needed, this may or may not be a relevant piece of information. But for those users who are finding Drive invaluable for storing all manner of documents and files, as well as syncing from their Android device, it is all too easy to max out even 15GB of generous free storage. Being able to easily see what your free (or premium) quota is used so far can be pretty useful.

How To See Services and Quotes Used

  1. When using the Google Drive interface, it displays the files that have been uploaded by users whom you have granted access to your Drive.
  2. Move the mouse over the storage information in the left-side of the footer which displays similar to 1 GB of 15 GB used.
  3. Click Drive. This will display a page with the Drive quota information that is used up by the files being stored in the Drive cloud service for you.

See All Files Stored in Your Drive

It is now possible to easily see what files are stored on your Drive and how much of the storage quota is being used up by each one. The list is initially sorted by file size, so the biggest storage hogs are shown at the top of the list and the smallest at the bottom.

What is missing from this page is any forms, documents, spreadsheets, drawings or presentations produced on Google Docs, plus slides, sheets and drawings are missing.

The quota link page works on the new interface for Drive and the old one as well.

One missing feature since the upgrade sadly is the previous ability to sort folder by size. This helped further breakdown where the space was being taken up for users who are more organized and use a folder, and possibly sub-folder, organizational structure.

It would be tough to create Drive information like a Windows utility that can search for files by size and type, etc. It's a little like how Remember the Milk app can perform smart searches for to do items checking tags and other content, whereas other to do apps can barely assign a category. Just a different level of sophistication. Not sure Drive will reach that level as it'll be tough for the masses to understand if they do.

Looking forward to the day when there will be a "Size" column across Google Drive pages.

Until then, the quota link https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/#quota will do although is not that conveniently placed.

I guess Google Docs, Sheets, Drawings are not showing up because they don't count towards the total allowed space. But it would sure be useful to see their size.
