MultCloud Review - Manage multiple cloud services, search and transfer between them
MultCloud is a new cloud-based services from AOMEI. The Chinese company may not be a household name just yet, but their series of disk management tools like AOMEI Partition Assistant Lite Edition and AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional Edition, plus their backup tools for desktops AOMEI Backupper Standard Edition and servers, AOMEI Backupper Server Edition, have performed well. They all passed malware tests and run on many different versions of Windows and Windows Server operating systems showing that this is a company who can be trusted.
Trust is a key issue here because the MultCloud service offered by AOMEI involved hooking your private cloud-based storage accounts into their single online system to provide access to several of them from a single interface.
Rather than using Dropbox, Box, SugarSync, OneDrive, Bitcasa and several other cloud accounts individually, the MultCloud makes them available in one location. Amazon Web Services (S3 cloud) is also accessible which will be of interest to business users and who will also like that FTP and WebDav can be used with this new service too.
Account Management
It is possible to create your own folders from inside this service. Files can be transferred easily between either multiple accounts with the same cloud service provider or different providers like from Dropbox to OneDrive. Copy and pasting is a simple process that can be used in the MultCloud file manager to make file transfers easier.
The simpler access to multiple accounts from the same cloud provider (often free accounts with limited free space provided) can make it much easier to maximize the available cloud space without the need to keep logging in and out of different cloud storage to access every single gigabyte available.
File Sharing
File sharing can be used to more easily share files with friends without the complication. If you have had trouble figuring out how to share files with friends or colleagues before then this new method of sharing files might just appeal to you.
File Previews
Rather than need to download documents to view them offline, the MultiDrive lets users view documents such as DOC, PDF and XLS files live within the online service itself.
File Searching
Lastly, the convenient of MultCloud is highlighted through the file search feature which can accept new search queries and then search all cloud accounts across all supported cloud providers with a single action. In some ways this is the best feature of the service especially for people who need to find certain files and are a bit disorganized with their filing system.
Version 3.0 Beta
MultCloud 3.0 Beta added some nice features, hinting that the development of this service is just beginning. Besides some speed and stability optimizations, the main upgrades are for the transfer feature.
You can setup transfers between folders of various connected storage accounts. This works with filters that support wildcards too. Once a transfer is configured, you can run it instantly or schedule it. The schedule times can be once or recurring.
You can also receive an email notifications after the transfer is completed, as the whole process will run in background while you can safely close the browser.
You can re-edit the storage accounts you have listed with MultCloud or view used/total space available for each service. Right-click on each storage account in order to do that.
These are all nice upgrades and I can't wait to see what the next version brings. Once thing worth improving are visuals. The GUI still needs some work. For instance the Task Manager button and the Profile link could be bigger, more visible.
More features
Version 3.1.0 adds Amazon cloud support and more interesting features:
- You can now use Amazon's cloud drive as well
- You can replace or skip files during transfers
- The SFTP service is enhanced: you can log in with a Private key
- The transfer function has been optimized, besides minor bugs being fixed
Version 3.6 main updates include the addition of hubiC cloud drive and the ability to use MultCloud with the "Experience without signing up" function. Minor upgrades are the addition of "Go to official site" shortcuts for some cloud drives and transmission bug fixes for OneDrive and Google Drive.
Alternatives exist
The service is presently free but a paid version may be coming later. Elsewhere, CloudHQ is a competing service that also includes support for SalesForce, BaseCamp and Evernote and could be worth a look as well.
