Internet of Things Brings Belkin's WeMo Home Devices to Mobile Apps

Belkin is going deeper into the "Internet of Things" with its new sensor line to connect up individual home items like a crock pot, a camera, lighting, door and room magnets to sense when a door is opened or closed, and a key chain which acts as a tracker (possibly to know where the kids are at?). The key chain can also be used by the home owner so that when they leave the home all connected WeMo devices will be automatically powered down to save on electricity.

WeMo Alarm Sensor

The WeMo Alarm Sensor can monitor carbon monoxide and fire alarms for activity and alert the user via the available Android and iPhone apps.

WeMo Room Motion Sensor

The WeMo Room Motion Sensor monitors movement in the home but cleverly can distinguish between Fredo the Dog and Sammy the Cat playing in the front room, and human intruders entering the property without permission. The motion sensor has a 90 degree field of vision and a 30 foot range. It can alert the homeowner via the mobile app and also trigger actions through other WeMo devices.

Home Convenience & Security Is Key

Home convenience and the security concerns continue to pull Belkin into new devices that facilitate both of these aspects of home living. Even if current home devices are IFTTT compatible devices but not WeMo ones, they'll still run as intended within the WeMo system.

Powered by Bluetooth

Each device connects to an Android or iPhone via wireless Bluetooth connection. No subscription charge is currently levied by Belkin for the use of these WeMo apps which all act as plug and play home solutions.

Competing With Google's Nest

The connected home solutions are now running along a similar path to Google's Nest company which seems further along with its new 15 partners and is showcasing their new home devices at CES. Belkin will also be showing off their own WeMo home connected devices at CES too. Commercial release is expected later in 2015 with pricing to be confirmed at a later date.
