The intention is that following the success of the iPhone 6 Plus, the latest Nexus branded smart phone will be larger that this iPhone with its 5.5-inch display and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which has a 5.7-inch display. Google is intent on catching the wave of interest here.

Phablets used to be thought of as simply too large and impractical. Early Samsung Galaxy Note models with its old school pen stylus were thought to be outdated but consumers surprised the doubters by buying the Note range every year in greater numbers as the screen size of the Note continued to grow with its audience. Other manufacturers have been watching closely and would like to get a piece of this growing segment of the smart phone market.

Phones nearing the 6-inch display size become more like mini tablets and work tools than mere phones. Larger phones have also become status symbols for many and work tools that do away with the need for a laptop or a tablet when so much can be done quickly on a phablet. This is especially true in the Asian markets where PC ownership is much lower but smart phone ownership and cellular connections make mobile computing possible.
