New information about Assassin’s Creed: Unity has been leaked by a beta tester of the Xbox One version of the game that started an AMA (Ask Me Anything) in Reddit, who goes by the name of AlphaNumeralBeta. Well, that username used to belong to him until his account got deleted; it was expected however, since he violated the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) that he signed when he was picked as a beta tester. Anyways, let’s take a look at what we have so far.

First of all, the user uploaded a screenshot of the level selection screen, with each level having its own area and assassin you use:

What you are seeing is the structured campaign level list. Each level affords a different location such as Ireland during the Great Famine. Each level then has its own assassin for the area. The levels are wholly coopable from the investigation, to the assassination, to the side missions/diversions.

Players can either join free roam and accompany you into missions, or you can start a mission via matchmaking”.

To clarify things, free roam is a subset of the campaign; after loading up a level you are in free roam, from where you can then choose between various missions and diversions. A gameplay video was uploaded on YouTube as well, but got deleted shortly afterwards. Fortunately though, we have animated GIFs for you from the leaked gameplay footage:

The number of side missions that the beta testers have is limited, but there is a unique one which stands out:

You are teleported to a sealed off area that is on the cusp of deteriorating(based on the level you chose). Your goal to is collect data on the map to find the location of a trapped assassin on the map. Data comes in three varieties. Static worth 10 points. Dynamic(read moving around the map) for 20 points, and encrypted(you have to stand year for a few seconds for it to be picked up) for 50 points.

After collecting 300 the Assassin's location is revealed. You are then provided a secondary goal of collecting 1000 which then rewards you bonus money etc.

The caveat: you are bound by a time limit. Once the time limit runs out the barriers of the level start shrinking. If the barrier hits you you are erased and you die. You have to reach the exit before being erased.”

AlphaNumeralBeta also said that the parkour compared to the parkour of previous games is “a definite improvement”. Different button combinations allow you to traverse normally, only ascend, or only descend.

When asked about the multiplayer co-op mode of the game, the user commented on it by saying that the network code is “atrocious”, but on the rare occasion that a connection is successfully established, then it’s quite interesting playing with others. For reference he posted an example of his experience in multiplayer: “As an example in one place I tossed a bag of coins on the ground and people started swarming it to collect the money. Guards approached to see what the commotion was about. After they were in range my partner dropped a stun grenade and knocked the group out”. Interesting indeed!

According to him, the free run button controls are as following:

  • Right Trigger: Standard Assassin's Creed free run.
  • Right Trigger + A: Free run with priority on ascending up objects.
  • Right Trigger + B: Free run with priority on descending down objects.

In another note, the beta tester confirmed the ability to play as female characters in co-op and customize them too.

Additionally, only a very small percentage of buildings could be entered by the player in this beta version.

After AlphaNumeralBeta’s appearance, a user with the username NonPotatoLeaker posted 3 new screenshots of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title in another Reddit AMA. They’re from the latest beta build of the game as well, which could explain the low quality in graphics:

NonPotatoLeaker said that this build got to 720p@30FPS, but no anti-aliasing so far.

Stay tuned for more information as it’s revealed.
